Alfred, a.k.a. “Silly”- such the ladies man - bet he’s never had to try online dating…
I twice went out with boys I met on Friendster in San Francisco, or more like, I twice went out with boys that contacted me through Friendster. I wasn’t looking to date, at least not online - not because I don’t think it’s a great way to meet someone - because I do, BUT I don’t like to plan on dating. I like it to just happen, to meet someone through a friend, or a mutual appreciation (like Queer as Folk - my favorite show). I think that online dating takes a lot of effort, and I just don’t have the time or desire to exert energy like that….But one of my favorite friends and writers, Mike (who has appeared on this site before) is trying online dating and he sent me this:
“so i’m a big believer in truth in advertising, or at least a hint of truth in advertising. i meet up for a couple drinks last night with a gal i’ve been emailing with and the ads lied. if ever you do a blog entry on online dating please note that if you provide a picture it should be at least marginally accurate. this girl’s wasn’t. nice enough gal but a whole lot larger than her pic and with short hair (i don’t know why but it’s a pet peeve of mine, i just don’t like short hair on girls, i’m not talking short like down to the neck but short like a guy’s haircut). there’s a part of me that’s just horny enough to go on a second date but then i’d kind of feel like I’d be selling myself WAYYYYYYYY short in the interest of getting laid. Not that I’ve ruled it out.”
Now, the guys I went out with both looked like their pictures, but that didn’t make them any more interesting. They were both complete losers, but nice enough guys. That’s not the point here though, because today it’s about Mike. Should Mike go on a second date with a girl he isn’t all that attracted to just so he may get laid? My initial response, and I think I still have to stick to it, is NO..because in the end he’ll feel worse than he would have if he just let it go. But maybe that’s a girl thing. I don’t know. Do you?
