Orgasmic Birth, Part Duh

I know I’ve posted on orgasmic birth before, and since the last post had some nice length and girth to it, I’ll keep this one short and sweet.

In America, as in most of the western world, we medicalize birth, meaning as soon as a woman is admitted to the hospital to give birth, she’s put in a wheelchair. This treatment helps further the idea that pregnancy is all about being helpless and feeling pain and fear. But there are advocates of pleasure-based, heck, even orgasm-inducing birth, and as the orgasmic birth movement rages on so does their latest book.

Orgasmic Birth: Your Guide to a Safe, Satisfying, and Pleasurable Birth Experience which (like the film), reminds everyone that women can actually experience pleasure in giving birth. Especially when “Anecdotal studies suggest that 30% of women experience [orgasms], or sensual pleasure, during labor and delivery.” So, even if a woman doesn’t orgasm during birth, why not give it a try? The worst that can happen is you don’t come.

Yeah, let’s here it for the big O!
