About
Hi. I’m Jamye Waxman, a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern who specializes in working with individuals, couples and groups on many issues, especially those that pertain to sexuality, LGBTQI issues, romantic relationships and parenting. I have a passion for working with individuals and couples on issues around love, sex, gender, attachment, trauma, pornography, panic, anxiety, existential crises, grief and loss.
I have my MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, as well as my MEd in Human Sexuality Education. I am currently finishing up my PhD in Human Sexuality Education from Widener University. I’ve also completed the SFSI training and have been a member of, and speaker at, the national AASECT convention. I am a current member of CAMFT and the former President of Feminists for Free Expression.
As a registered intern with the BBS, I’m currently obtaining my hours in private practice under the direct supervision of Kate Loree. I am also obtaining hours working at the LA LGBT Center and Center for Healthy Sex.
In addition to being a budding therapist and sex educator, I’m a published author. My latest book, How to Break Up With Anyone was released in September, 2015. The premise is about breaking up in non-romantic relationships. My other books include an award winning book on self-pleasure and one on spicing up your sex life.
Before therapy, I had a career as a sex educator and radio producer for the Internet talk show LoveBytes with Bob Berkowitz on the now defunct eyada.com . I also gained tremendous experience working at the world-famous Babeland in New York City, and then going on to make educational videos for the Lovers adult boutiques in the Pacific Northwest.
Since beginning my work as a sex educator, I have gone on to be internationally recognized for my contributions to the sex and media community. In 2005, Wired.Com dubbed me “the next generation of sex educator.” I have also been featured in numerous print and online publications including, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Women’s Health, Men’s Health, Forbes, Jane, Heeb, Time Out New York and The NY Daily News.
In addition to being a budding therapist, educator, writer, author, blogger, public speaker, podcaster, producer and director, I am also a single parent. I understand the challenges of the life/work balance, especially when it comes to finding the balance between life, work and raising a child. I also understand the difficulties individuals and couples face in relating to one another, both in love and in life. I have a passion for listening and I am driven to help you come to your own conclusions and solutions about what are the best ways for you to continue to move and grow. I’m open, honest and non-judgmental and am happy to work with people in both traditional, and alternative, relationships and career paths.
It would be an honor to walk with you down your own yellow brick road.
